King Charles offers William and Kate's Norfolk neighbour new role in the royal court

The Marquess – who is also a film-maker – now holds a presitigious position that will see him attend important state and royal occasions and representing His Majesty at official events when called to.

He lives with his wife, former model Rose, at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, close to Anmer in the East Anglian countryside surrounded by 1,000 acres of parkland.

The couple married in 2009, with the Marquess being 23 years his wife’s senior.

They now have three children together, twin sons Alexander and Oliver and a daughter Iris.

In his previous role as Lord Great Chamberlain, the Marquess had to walk backwards in front of the monarch at the State Opening of Parliament.

He had to leave the position after Queen Elizabeth’s passing in September because of the tradition that it changes to another aristocratic family on the death of the monarch.

He was succeeded by the 7th Lord Carrington, whose late father served as Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher.

The Marquess, the 7th of his title, divides his time between Norfolk and Cheshire, where his family have lived at Cholmondeley since 1200.

His late mother, the Dowager Marchioness Lavinia lived at Cholmondeley Castle until her death in November 2015.

The Marquess and Marchioness are known to be friendly with the royals and are often seen at royal events, such as the Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip in 2022.

The Marchioness has another royal connection, as her grandmother Lady Rose Lambert was a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth’s wedding in 1947.

Ms Hanbury once worked as a model, and became good friends with Kate through their shared charity work with the East Anglian Children’s Hospice.

Similarly to Kate she is also a keen photographer, sharing stunning pictures of the Houghton Hall estate on Instagram.

Her romance with the Marquess was said to be a whirlwind affair, as according to Hello! : “In June 2009 the couple announced their engagement, the next day it was revealed they were expecting and just a day later they tied the knot.”
