King Charles left a royal butler bewildered after insisting he undertook household task

A royal butler was left dismayed after realising King Charles had abandoned his post to make a cup of coffee for a guest, according to The Mail.

Despite the Royal Family having numerous members of staff to wait on them hand and foot Charles, then-Prince of Wales, left an interview with former Blue Peter presenter Sarah Greene to make her a hot beverage.

The 65-year-old said: “Halfway through the interview, he went: ‘Just hold it right there. Would you like a cup of coffee?’

“His butler came in and I had to explain where the future King had gone, to which he replied: ‘When will he understand that it’s me who makes the coffee and him that does the Princing?'”

A body language expert recently claimed that while out and about on royal visits the King has a secret signal he will use to indicate that he wants to move on from a conversation.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers told People magazine in 2011 that the royals will often tell a joke to try to end a conversation.

He said: “What they all do [the Royal Family] is try to find a quick joke to leave it on. [King] Charles has a quick ‘ha ha’ and that enables him to break the conversation.”

The King appears to become a little “stressed” when he is at an engagement without his wife Queen Camilla by his side, according to Mr Stanton, however since becoming monarch his confidence seems to have grown.

He said: “Little key indicators are when he plays with his cufflinks or with the cuffs on his shirt and jacket. These are what are called ‘pacifying gestures’, which are things we do when trying to self-reassure ourselves.

“However, King Charles has evolved a bit over the years, he has become more confident in himself, especially since becoming King, so we tend to see these gestures less and less.”

The King and Queen are currently enjoying a break from royal duties as they relax with the rest of the family at Balmoral, with them not expected to return until mid-September.
