King Charles health update as Queen Camilla gives four-word comment after surgery

Queen Camilla gave a brief four-word health update on King Charles after the monarch underwent surgery earlier today. King Charles was admitted to The London Clinic to undergo treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Queen Camilla told reporters outside the hospital: “He’s doing fine, thank you.” Echoing this, a Palace insider also tells Express.co.uk that the King is “doing well” following the planned procedure.

The Queen also popped in to see Kate as she accompanied her husband to hospital, in what highlights another important break with tradition. It is rare for a spouse to accompany a royal into hospital, with the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip always going for treatment alone.

Sources say Camilla, 76, stayed until doctors confirmed her husband’s surgery was a success. She was seen leaving the hospital six hours after the King was first admitted.

The King is expected to stay in the hospital for two nights as he recovers from the planned surgery.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment. His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

It comes after two royal health scares were revealed, with news that the Princess of Wales had successful abdominal surgery followed by a second announcement that the King was due to undergo a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate this week.

King Charles was diagnosed with the benign condition on January 17 while staying at Birkhall in Scotland, after going for a check-up because he was experiencing symptoms.

He is understood to have wanted to share the news to encourage other men to get themselves checked.

By being so open about his surgery the King has also protected his daughter-in-law Princess Kate from increased media scrutiny as she recovers in hospital from abdominal surgery.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the Princess underwent a successful operation last week for an unknown condition, although they revealed it is not related to cancer.

Kate will not be back on royal duty likely until after Easter, with the timing of her and the King’s announcements so close together thought to be a deliberate move.
