A-level results day bears a huge importance in a young person’s life, with members of the Royal Family no exception to that.

Despite the royal duties that await them, securing a good education still proves high on the list of priorities in a young royal’s life.

The late Queen never actually sat an academic exam in her life, and because of this, she made sure all of her four children came away with a fine selection of results under their belts.

Lady Louise Windsor’s A-level results were never released by Buckingham Palace last year but, in the past, royal results have been open to the public.

As young people across the UK prepare to find out their A-level results today, Express.co.uk takes a look at how some of the royals fared in their exams at their time and what universities they attended.

King Charles III

The then-Prince Charles, who was a student at Gordonstoun, achieved five GCSEs – which at the time were called O-levels.

He then went on to achieve two A-levels, gaining a B grade in History and a C grade in French.

The monarch then went to Cambridge University where obtained a 2:2 degree in History.

Prince Andrew and Prince Edward

Just like the now-King and their late father, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward also studied at Gordonstoun School in Windsor.

Andrew secured himself six O-levels, while Edward gained nine.

The brothers both gained A-levels in History, Politics and English, with Edward also going on to study at Cambridge University like Charles.

Like Charles, Edward studied History – also managing to secure the same result, a 2:2 in his degree.

Prince William and Prince Harry

Instead of attending Gordonstoun like their father and uncles, the brothers studied at Eton College.

William, being the eldest of the two, headed to Eton in 1995, and became the first royal to attend there.

Harry enrolled at Eton in 1998, before completing his studies there in 2003.

Prince William received 12 GCSEs, as well as three A-levels – achieving an A in Geography, an A in History of Art and a C in Biology.

Harry received 11 GCSEs and two A-levels – a B grade in Art and a D in Geography.

When William received his A-levels results, the now-King told The Guardian: “I know how hard William worked to achieve these excellent results and I am very proud that he has done so well.”

William went on to gain a 2:1 degree in Geography at the University of St Andrews. In contrast, Harry opted to go travelling for one year after he left, before joining the army.

Kate, the Princess of Wales

Princess Kate secured 11 GCSEs at St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne before she studied at Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

The royal, who married William in 2011, received two A grades in Maths and Art, as well as a B grade in English.

After taking a gap year, Kate went to the University of St Andrews in 2001 – where she met William.

She graduated in 2003 with a 2:1 in History of Art.

Meghan Markle

Born in America, Meghan’s education was slightly different to that of the British royals.

Meghan studied at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles.

There is no report of her SATs results, which are the equivalent of GCSEs or A-levels in the UK.

She did, however, gain a double-major degree in Theatre and International Relations.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

The two York sisters both fared well in their A-levels results, with the pair both going on to study at university.

Beatrice gained an A grade in Drama and B grades in both History and Film Studies. She went on to study History at London’s Goldsmiths University and graduated in 2011 with a 2:1.

Eugenie gained A grades in Art and English Literature and a B in History of Art from Malborough College in 2008.

After a gap year, she went to Newcastle University, where she graduated in 2012 with a 2:1 in English Literature and History of Art.
