King Charles has been pictured driving in Sandringham, Norfolk, as he prepares to undergo prostate surgery.
The monarch, who wore green knitted gloves, looked in good health as he drove a Audi 4×4 on public roads near his beloved Sandringham estate.
It comes just days after the Royal Family was hit by a double health scare. On Wednesday, Kensington Palace revealed that the Princess of Wales had undergone successful abdominal surgery and will remain in hospital for up to two weeks. Just 90 minutes later Buckingham Palace said King Charles will undergo treatment this week for an enlarged prostate.
The King was enjoying his New Year break in Scotland when he received the diagnosis, having had a check-up last week after experiencing problems.
On Friday he flew from Aberdeen to Norfolk, and was pictured being driving the 15mile journey to Sandringham.
Earlier on Monday, Queen Camilla told a well-wisher that the King was doing “fine” ahead of the planned surgery.
During a visit to Deacon & Son, a 175-year-old family-run jewellery shop, Camilla participated in a brief walkabout.
Jessie Jackson, 86, from Swindon, Wiltshire, was among those queued up outside who managed to have a brief chat with the Queen.
Ms Jackson, who was carrying a union flag, told the PA news agency she shook the Queen’s hand and asked her how Charles was doing.
Camilla thanked her for asking and Ms Jackson added: “She’s lovely.”
Nicky Jackson, 48, who accompanied her, added: “She asked how Charles was. He’s fine. We didn’t ask about Kate. We forgot about poor Kate.”
She added: “She’s a big royalist this one (Jessie), so she was very excited.”
