He said: “What they are actually telling you is that he is in good shape, and that role as head of state is not being impeded in any way.
“If it was the case that something more serious was just around the corner, they absolutely would not be giving you that level of operational detail.”
The statement from Buckingham Palace read: “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.
“He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
It added that the King had “chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
