King Charles could be off work for a month in recovery update

The King will not carry out any royal engagement for up to a month following his surgery on his enlarged prostate. King Charles was said to be “doing well” following his operation, which was completed in the same hospital as Princess Kate had her abdominal surgery.

Both the 75-year-old King and 42-year-old Kate underwent their respective surgeries in the London Clinic, a private hospital in Marylebone.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the King was “admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment”.

The spokesman went on: “His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

The benign condition was discovered on January 17 after the King was said to be experiencing symptoms.

On Friday Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.

“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

Queen Camilla went to the hospital with her husband, in what was branded a “very unusual” move.

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship noted the change in precedent, writing on X: “Queen Camilla has gone into the hospital with King Charles.
“Whilst this might seem normal for most families, it is very unusual for the Royal Family to accompany their spouse like this (the late Queen and Prince Philip always went into hospital on their own.)”

On the day of the diagnosis, NHS England reported a sharp increase in views on its enlarged prostate webpage, with a visit every five seconds.
