King Charles breaks silence on Princess Kate cancer news – 'so proud'

King Charles has said he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did”, in a statement of solidarity after the Princess of Wales unveiled she has been battling cancer.

In a statement released within an hour of Princess Kate’s video being published, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “His Majesty is ‘so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did’.

“Following their time in hospital together, HM has ‘remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.’

“Both Their Majesties ‘will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time’.”

The mother-of-three sat on a bench in the grounds of her Windsor home with daffodils around her as she opened up in a candid video. She explained in detail how cancer had been picked up during post-operative tests after her abdominal surgery at The London Clinic in January.

Prior to this, her successful surgery did not pick anything up. Medics had since advised the future Queen to undergo preventative chemotherapy in late-February. Like any other person, the Princess, 42, said the diagnosis was a “huge shock”.

It is why she has taken time out to process the information and to also prioritise her young family  Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five. The Express understands the Princess purposely chose today to announce this information as it coincided with when her three children broke up for Easter.

The King’s praise for his daughter-in-law, of which he is fond, comes as the monarch himself undergoes treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.
