King Charles breaks cover for first time since Princess Kate's photo editing row

King Charles has been pictured for the first time since a row erupted over a photo of Princess Kate and her three children was shared on Mother’s Day.

The 75-year-old monarch was seen waving to crowds from the back of his Rolls-Royce as he was driven down The Mall on Wednesday morning.

The King has taken a step back from public-facing duties after his shock cancer diagnosis last month.

Queen Camilla was also pictured in the vehicle, ahead of her arrival at the Cheltenham Festival this afternoon.

The monarch has been travelling back and forth between London and Windsor regularly, as he undergoes treatment for his cancer.

However, while he’s still not attending public-facing duties, the King continues to fulfil his essential constitutional functions, including state business and official paperwork.

It comes after a PR storm erupted on the weekend following Kensington Palace’s release of a heartwarming family photo of the Princess of Wales surrounded by her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

The image sparked a huge backlash after it emerged it had been digitally manipulated with many raising concerns about the princess’s health.

The photograph was pulled from several major photo agencies before Kate publicly took blame for the mishap and apologised for any confusion the family photo, released by Kensington Palace, may have caused.
