King Charles and Queen Camilla unveil next royal tour as trip to France rescheduled

In March the royal couple had been due to tour Paris and Bordeaux, and it is thought their schedule for the trip next month will remain broadly similar.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to France, visiting Paris and Bordeaux, from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd September 2023.

“The visit will celebrate the shared history, culture and values of the United Kingdom and France.”

President Macron is also expected to hold a state banquet in honour of Their Majesties during their trip.

The royals have been advised to go to France by the Foreign Office, as they continue to strengthen ties with Britain’s European neighbours due to the threat to regional and global security from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The trip was originally halted due to protests over President Macron’s decision to raise the retirement age in France from 62 to 64 without a parliamentary vote.

Unions had planned a fresh wave of action on Tuesday March 28, the day Charles and Camilla were due to visit Bordeaux.

The royal visit to Germany in March went ahead without a hitch, as they received a full ceremonial welcome at Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate upon their arrival in the city.

That night they attended a state banquet at Bellevue Palace, before the King met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz the following day and addressed the Bundestag, the German Parliament.

On their last day in Hamburg the royals commemorated losses from World War II and visited the Kindertransport Memorial, erected to remember the Jewish children forced to flee persecution.

There were some more light-hearted moments too as the King and Queen met Germany’s Eurovision entry Lord of the Lost and enjoyed a pint at a food market.
