King Charles and Queen Camilla 'taking some time off to recover' after Coronation

King Charles and Queen Camilla are reportedly “taking some time off” to recover after the historic Coronation celebrations.

They have retired to Sandringham House, their private Norfolk residence, for the rest of this week. And they could also remain there for the first few days of next week, it has been reported.

But royal staff have already begun preparing their jammed schedule in the lead-up to their summer break. This includes the Order of the Garter ceremony and visits spanning the whole of the UK.

A brief overseas state visit is also anticipated in the autumn – possibly their trip to France, which was postponed at the last minute in March as a result of civil unrest in the country.

A long-haul overseas trip is also expected, with the King’s attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in the South Pacific already confirmed.

Located halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii – almost 10,000 miles away – it will be a gruelling journey for the King and Queen who, by then, will be 75 and 76 respectively.

It is quite possible, then, that he will use the trip as an opportunity for stop-overs in Australia and New Zealand, both countries where he is still head of state and are long overdue for visits from senior royals.

The Queen is also making final preparations for her inaugural Reading Room Festival at Hampton Court Palace in west London next month now that her Instagram book club has become a charity promoting literacy.

Sources say the King and Queen are delighted with how the Coronation went and were “thrilled” to see so many people joining the weekend’s festivities, according to the Daily Mail.

But the couple are now reported to be ready for a few days “out of the spotlight”. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales reportedly told a volunteer at a Big Help Out event in Slough that his children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – were so exhausted by the Coronation celebrations he was worried he’d have difficulty waking them up in time for school.
