King Charles and Prince Harry olive branch 'not going to happen in 2024', says expert

King Charles III will not offer Prince Harry an olive branch, nor will the Prince offer one in return, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the larger Royal Family does not appear to have changed in 2023, with hopes of a reconciliation seemingly dashed.

The release of their documentary and Price Harry’s smash-hit autobiography Spare left experts feeling the already sizeable rift has grown even further. The year ahead has been tipped to bring more of the same as royals eye a 2024 packed with work.

One expert has said the couple is “in the wilderness now” and shouldn’t expect any rapprochement with the rest of the royal family.

Speaking to GB News, Charles Rae, a former royal correspondent for The Sun, said an olive branch is “just not going to happen”. He said: “Any hopes that there’s going to be any olive branch given out by the King or from Harry…it’s just not going to happen.

“They’re in the wilderness now, and they’re going to stay there, and long may they stay there.” Accounts regarding the state of the cross-Atlantic relations differ, however, with some insiders suggesting there is goodwill and space for reconciliation.

Last week, an insider suggested that Prince Harry is eager to “make amends” with his British-bound relatives. Speaking to Closer magazine, they said the Prince wishes to “start the near year off right”.

They added that King Charles III has a similar desire but warned that Prince William may be the most difficult Royal Family member to persuade.

The pair have reportedly grown apart since Prince Harry moved to the US, with rumours of a rift having existed since 2016.

But the insider said Prince Charles wants William and Harry “to repair their relationship”, and is even on a “mission” to have his sons on good terms once more.

They said: “He’s telling William to be the first one to reach out and be the bigger person. It’s his mission to get the boys on good terms.”
