Kieran Trippier beats Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham to Fans' Footballer of the Year

Trippier becomes the second successive Newcastle player to win the award after Bruno Guimaraes was crowned the winner in 2022. He has contributed with 10 league assists over the last 12 months, taking just 14 games this season to equal his total from the entirety of the previous campaign.

The England defender’s brilliant year was enough for him to claim the award ahead of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who finishes as the runner-up after smashing plenty of records in his debut Premier League season. The towering Norwegian forward has bagged 43 goals in 2023, making him the leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues ahead of the festive period.

Jude Bellingham, meanwhile, finishes in third place after losing out to Haaland by just three votes. The young midfield maestro has taken to life at Real Madrid like a duck to water and is quickly establishing himself as one of football’s biggest stars as he continues to thrive in Spain.

Bukayo Saka comes home in fourth place after another standout campaign for Arsenal in the Premier League last season. On the international stage, he was named Men’s Player of the Year for the second time in a row and scored his first career hat-trick on the way to helping England qualify for next summer’s Euros.

Mohamed Salah makes the top five for a fourth consecutive year, with his club form at Liverpool helping him to retain his status as one of the Premier League’s best forwards. The 31-year-old was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the summer but ended up staying at Anfield and has been prolific in front of goal once again.

In sixth place, Mary Earps becomes the first female player to rank inside the top 10 after winning the FIFA Best Women’s Goalkeeper award following standout performances at the Women’s World Cup. She was recognised earlier this week by winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, edging out the likes of Rory McIlroy and Katarina Johnson-Thompson to claim the prize.

Rodri, meanwhile, comes home in seventh place after playing a major role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign. He edges out eighth-placed Harry Kane and Declan Rice in ninth, while Chelsea forward Sam Kerr finds herself in 10th following her excellent showing for Australia at the Women’s World Cup and her second-placed finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
