Katy Perry's mum compares Windsor Castle furnishings to 'dated' I Love Lucy set

Pop star Katy Perry enjoyed a two-night stay at Windsor Castle as a “thank you” from King Charles for performing at the Coronation concert back in May.

But, her mother, Mary Hudson, is said to have now likened the inside of Windsor Castle to the set of the 1950’s American sitcom I Love Lucy.

Her comments surfaced in an article by society columnist Richard Mineards for the Montecito Journal, after she joined her famous daughter on the trip.

Mary is quoted as saying: “We got to meet Charles and his sister Princess Anne and they couldn’t have been more charming.

“Staying at the castle was an honour but the interior decorations were I Love Lucy ’60s style.”

I Love Lucy starred Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and ran from 1951 – 1957.

A Hollywood source told the Daily Mail: “I’m not sure the King will be thrilled to have his castle interior compared to Lucy’s, which was all nylon sofas, frilly lampshades and questionable wallpaper.

“The show’s decor is very dated and old-fashioned, which is perhaps what Katy’s mum is referring to.”

Katy, 38, performed at the King’s Coronation concert alongside Lionel Ritchie, Paloma Faith, and pop royalty Take That.

Dressed in a regal gold gown, the star dedicated her performance to the King and his work with the Prince’s Trust, before belting out some of her greatest hits, including Roar and Firework to an enthusiastic crowd including Prince George and Prince Charlotte.

Katy is engaged to British actor Orlando Bloom, 46, and they welcomed their first child, a daughter called Daisy Dove back in 2020.

The couple resides close to Katy’s mother, Mary, an evangelical preacher and her husband, Bill, in a £12 million mansion in Montecito, California.

Katy and her mother stayed at the Royal residence the night before her big performance and spent their final night there after attending a star-studded aftershow party.
