Kate's chat to diffuse tension with Meghan was so strained her 'fingers were white'

Princess Kate and Meghan Markle reportedly hit many rocky patches in their relationship, with Prince Harry writing in his memoir Spare how one chat was so tense Kate’s “fingers were white”.

In spite of both marrying brothers, and coming from non-royal backgrounds themselves, Kate and Meghan found it difficult to build a connection due to their vastly different personalities and views on life.

Harry explained in his autobiography how Prince William and Kate seemed at loggerheads with Meghan during the early days of their relationship and before their wedding in 2018.

The two women were said to have had such a huge bust-up over bridesmaid dresses for Harry and Meghan’s nuptials that the Duchess was left in tears, with Kate sending over flowers the next day to apologise.

Shortly after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon Harry and William decided to have a chat with Kate and Meghan to clear the air, and Harry and Meghan went over for tea.

According to the book, Kate wanted Meghan to apologise for making a comment about her having “baby brain” not long after she had given birth to Prince Louis.

Harry recalled that Kate gripped a leather sofa so tightly her “fingers were white” as she felt that Meghan’s comment about her hormones was too personal.

Meghan then apologised and explained that is how she would speak to her friends, to which William supposedly pointed a finger in her face and retorted: “Well, it’s rude, Meghan. These things are not done here.”

The Duchess responded to him “if you don’t mind, keep your finger out of my face” and relations between the couple have only gotten worse over the years.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were accused of snubbing Meghan on social media after they failed to send her birthday wishes as she celebrated turning 42 last Friday.

Official royal rules state that only working members of the Firm are sent birthday greetings from the Palace online, however Hilary Forwich, a frequent commentator on royal affairs based in the US, told Express.co.uk: “The most definite snub is from Prince William and Kate since they aren’t bound by protocol at all.

“Indeed, last year they posted on both their Twitter and Instagram accounts best wishes accompanying a photo of Meghan.

“We certainly know they are social media savvy and actually did post on her birthday this year but not to her, but rather to send congratulatory comments to the documentary team who made the Rhino Man (a film by the Global Conservation Corps, a nonprofit dedicated to conserving wildlife through education).”

The four have not been seen in public together since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral last year, as Meghan chose not to go to the King’s Coronation and Harry barely speaking to his family throughout the trip.
