Kate 'smashing it' as Princess snatches most popular royal title with rebranding campaign

Royal expert Tim Ewart noted how Catherine has been “smashing it” with her performance for some time, changing appearance and strategy as she grew more confident with the role.

He said: “Her public appearances are incredibly relaxed. She really has, and I don’t want to sound sycophantic here, but she has grown into the role.

“I remember back in 2012, her first public appearance, the first speech she made as a new member of the Royal Family and she was really, really nervous and uncomfortable.

“All that has changed, she has a very good dress sense and she reuses a lot of the outfits she wears thereby ticking the sustainability box and she’s also now heading up this initiative to make people aware of the importance of the first five years of a child’s life. “

He added: “Out in public, she’s really smashing it at the moment, she’s the number one popular member of the Royal Family.”

The former ITV royal editor also suggested the Princess’s growing confidence and conduct have effectively dismantled any parallel between her and Meghan Markle.

Speaking to Sky Australia’s The Royal Report, Ewart added: “And for Meghan to think competing with that now…it might’ve been different had things not deteriorated as they did.

“It might very well be different but it isn’t. Kate doesn’t really need to fight back, exactly, she just needs to carry on doing what she’s doing.”

According to the latest data on YouGov, Kate is the second most popular member of the Royal Family after her late grandmother-in-law.

The data shows the Princess of Wales is most popular among Baby Boomers, with a support rate of 78 percent.

Gen X come in second at 68 percent, followed shortly after at 64 percent among Millennials.

Prince William follows in third behind his wife and late grandmother at 67 percent, with Princess Anne fourth overall at 64 percent.

However, an insider suggested last month that Kate is eager to cement her popularity and standing after she was confirmed to have hired branding and marketing expert Alison Corfield as her new private secretary.

The source told The Telegraph: “You can often see the ambitions of individual members of the Royal family by the hires that they make.

“What the Princess of Wales is doing is a very clear sign that she is redefining herself now that she has this new role.

“The role of heir, or wife of the heir, brings opportunities and also responsibilities as you represent the monarchy not only around the country but also around the world.

“She has a greater platform now, so she needs the right team to deliver for her.”
