Kate and William's rare display of public affection gives major hint into relationship

Judi James exclusively spoke to Express.co.uk about the couple’s interations following a triumphant Coronation weekend, “a huge personal success for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children”.

She said: “William and Kate are never over-demonstrative in public because they have had royal role models like the late Queen and her son Charles who have carried on the tradition of having a more formal approach to PDAs, restricting themselves to loving eye contact and subtle touches or truncated touches rather than regular hugs, kisses or hand-holding.

“Subtle signalling can be as powerful as more overt PDAs because they hint at the levels of love behind the scenes.

“But William is still far more relaxed than ever now that he is closer to the throne and less likely to upset traditional standards.”

The Waleses were front and centre over the Coronation weekend, with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis joining their parents for a family engagement.

On May 8 the whole family was at the 3rd Upton Scouts Hut in Slough helping to renovate the building as part of the Big Help Out.

Kate and William have also posted several videos covering the Coronation weekend showing fans the behind-the-scenes action before the ceremony, as well as Charlotte and Louis’ reaction and a tribute to the RAF.

Recent coverage of Kate’s visit to the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in Bath on Tuesday has also been shared on their accounts as part of an apparent PR strategy to target younger people.

Some have said the Waleses are trying to appeal to the younger generation as the popularity of the monarchy amongst this age group is waning, according to a new poll.

A poll by YouGov found that only 36 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds in the UK wanted to keep the monarchy, a huge drop from 2013 when that figure was as high as 72 percent.

Another poll found that Kate and William proved more popular with youngsters ahead of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Kate and William’s young family are being “heavily marketed” to show the transition of the monarchy into a new modern age, according to a royal author.

Andrew Lownie told Express.co.uk: “I think the Coronation will be seen as part of the transition from a very traditional to a more inclusive monarchy and the heavy marketing of the Wales and their children to show the future is secure.”

In spite of their young age George, Charlotte and Louis will be invaluable to the monarchy once they grow up and are able to take up their own working royal duties.

Currently Kate, William, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh are the only four working royals who are under the age of 70.
