Kate and William 'don't want' to move into Royal Lodge even if Andrew is forced out

It had previously been reported that William and Kate had had their eyes on Royal Lodge ever since it was announced that Andrew could be moving out.

Although the King has pushed for the move, Andrew has refused to leave the 30-room mansion – even refusing to move out temporarily during renovations over fears he may lose the home forever.

Sources previously claimed that Adelaide Cottage was too small for Prince William, Kate and their three children, nine-year-old Prince George, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and five-year-old Prince Louis, but insiders told Page Six that the couple is “extremely happy” in their current home.

The royal couple wants to remain at Adelaide Cottage in order to provide their three children with as normal of an upbringing as possible.

The Prince and Princess of Wales relocated from Kensington Palace to Windsor last September, with all three of their children now attending Lambrook School.

The King is reportedly keen for the family-of-five to move into Royal Lodge, with the monarch telling Andrew to consider moving into Frogmore Cottage – the former home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Prince Andrew moved into Royal Lodge in 2002, having signed a 75-year lease on the home. He still lives there with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

The King suggested that Andrew could permanently “downsize” to Frogmore Cottage, in order to make room for the future King and Queen to move in.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were moving out of Frogmore Cottage, the home that they used as their UK base after stepping down from royal duties three years ago.

The couple relocated to the US in 2020, having previously lived at Frogmore Cottage following the birth of their son, Prince Archie, in 2019.

Back in March, the eviction was confirmed via a statement, which read: “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
