Kate and Prince William share key lesson they want George, Charlotte and Louis to learn

Kate, the Princess of Wales and Prince William are adamant their three children need to learn “how to lose well” to grow up better.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are known to be sporty and to have passed their passion to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, four.

The pair discussed their children’s relationship with sport in a surprise appearance on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly podcast co-hosted by the husband of William’s cousin Zara, Mike Tindall.

During the episode, the Prince of Wales spoke of the important lessons he learned while a member of his school rugby team – and said he wants their children to learn how to accept they can’t always win.

He said: “I think people don’t know how to lose well. Talking about our children in particular, I want to make sure they understand that.

“It’s really important from a young age to understand how to lose and why we lose and then to grow from it through that process.”

He also credited his experience at Eaton for teaching him how to be a team player and how to grapple with fear and pressure.

William continued: “The team environment of sport played a big part in my life and my upbringing.

“I gelled and loved being in that quadrant of fear, noise, competitiveness with your mates and your team around you.

“I loved the highs and the lows, looking out for each other if someone got injured or if someone was feeling a bit left out, you’d go and make sure they’re included.”

He added: “It’s that camaraderie, that relationship-building [and] learning to lose, which I think we’ve got to concentrate more on nowadays.”

Kate also noted how George, Charlotte and Louis have different temperaments – which has led them to try out different sports and activities.

George is known to be a keen fan of his father’s soccer team Aston Villa, and he accompanied William to the stadium on several occasions.

He shares a passion for tennis with sister Charlotte and the pair attended the Wimbledon final alongside their parents.

The young princess is known to have attended ballet classes from a young age and in May showed off her archery prowess during a family outing in Slough.

And Kate admitted earlier this year that Louis is “mad about rugby”. She also noted the whole family has a bit of a competitive streak.
