Just Stop Oil spark fury as mob on Waterloo Bridge 'blocks ambulance on emergency call'

Just Stop Oil have blocked ambulances and been dragged away by police after stopping traffic on Waterloo Bridge in Central London.

As many as 50 eco-zealots conducted their latest protest ahead of a potential demonstration on Armistice Day on Saturday.

In a statement on X, the Metropolitan Police said: “This is some of the congestion which JSO are causing on Waterloo Bridge.

“One of the vehicles is an ambulance on blue lights which is not able to get past. Officers are continually telling the activists to move out the road so it can pass while making arrests.”

In reply to the statement by the Metropolitan Police, Just Stop Oil said on X: “The @metpoliceuk appear to be blocking an ambulance on Waterloo Bridge so they can blame it on a protest march going in the other direction.”

In subsequent tweets on the platform, the Metropolitan Police said: “A group of five Just Stop Oil activists, who were part of the original demonstration on Waterloo Bridge, are slow marching along The Strand.

“These are the final activists on the road. Officers are with them and making arrests.

“All JSO activists are out of the road. We estimate that officers made more than 40 arrests, those numbers will be confirmed in due course. If you were one of the people impacted, tell us, so we can use it as evidence.”

Just Stop Oil’s latest stunt follows news reported by LBC, that the group could be planning a massive demonstration on Armistice Day on Saturday.

Speaking to LBC, the group said: “All JSO activists are out of the road. We estimate that officers made more than 40 arrests, those numbers will be confirmed in due course. If you were one of the people impacted, tell us, so we can use it as evidence.

“The disruption the climate crisis is causing will dwarf anything that Just Stop Oil could ever do.”

In response to their statement Commander Umer Khan of the City of London Police force said there would be “proportional policing” at the event.

Commander Khan explained: “The Lord Mayor’s Show is a historic inclusive family and community event, that will take place in the City, as planned.

“Our operational plan is being constantly reviewed and there will be a proportional policing operation in place.”

“We look forward to welcoming the large crowds the event attracts every year and we would ask those attending to report anything that doesn’t feel right, for example, an unattended item or someone acting suspiciously.

“If you see anything concerning, please tell a police officer or a marshal. We will always take your concerns seriously.”
