Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool got lucky as 3 'not cool' moments picked out in Everton win

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted that his side were “lucky” that Ibrahima Konate was not sent off during their 2-0 win over Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby, as he was not totally content with the performance despite victory against the Reds’ local rivals. Mohamed Salah’s brace sealed all three points against 10-men Toffees, but Klopp’s centre-back could also have been shown a second yellow for his foul on Beto.

When asked for his thoughts on the game, Klopp told TNT Sports: “Good, well deserved, I really think it’s a difficult game with a lot of emotions involved. Red card, maybe a second yellow for us, penalty. In the first half we had three really big opportunities which didn’t even end up as a shot on target – which is not cool.

“With a better last pass, we need to score there one, two or three and it’s not helpful. Red card for Everton obviously changed the game, we didn’t use it to our advantage and at half-time I told them to ignore that we are one man up.”

On Konate’s potential red card, Klopp said: “We are lucky, probably, I didn’t see it back but I will and probably we are lucky with Ibou that he didn’t get the second yellow there.”

When asked if Klopp could understand Everton and Sean Dyche’s frustrations as the Toffees had Ashley Young sent off for a similar offence, he replied: “Of course I understand. It hurts, we were on the other side and we have to accept that. It’s hard to do that in the first moment, but you get over it I can tell you.”
