John Torode confesses he took leaf out of Damien Lewis' book for Prince William meeting

John Torode, 57, has revealed he decided to somewhat copy famous actor Damien Lewis, 52, when he went to Buckingham Palace.

Back in February, the MasterChef judge was awarded an MBE for services to food and charity from Prince William, 40, in a ceremony also attended by his wife Lisa Faulkner, 51.

John’s wife, whom he met on Celebrity MasterChef, gushed about how her husband looked “so handsome” on the day.

“I have to thank the people at Favourbrook who helped me with the suit,” John said.

“I saw that Damien Lewis wore blue tails to his investiture, so I was inspired by Damien Lewis!

“I’ve been lucky enough to go to Buckingham Palace before but I think when you’re receiving something like that it’s a big honour.

“But they make you feel so comfortable and there are lots of other people who are just as nervous and we all chatted. It was really good. And also really humbling.”

John then went on to gush about Prince William, who Lisa also described as her “favourite royal”.

“To see Prince William, who is now of course the Prince of Wales again was just brilliant,” he said.

“When we spoke I reminded him that the last time we met I cooked for him at a charity polo match, that’s how I started the conversation.

“It was before he was married, but Catherine was there with him, and he said they raised lots of money [at the event]. The time spent chatting together all goes so quickly.”

John & Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen returns Saturday 8th April at 11.35am on ITV1 and ITVX.
