Jannik Sinner shows true colours with immediate comments about umpire mistake

Jannik Sinner showed his class as he refused to criticise the umpire for making a crucial mistake when he had a point for the double break in the final set of his Monte-Carlo Masters semi-final. Stefanos Tsitsipas went on to hold serve and eventually won 6-4 3-6 6-4.

There have been several controversial calls from umpires at this year’s Monte-Carlo Masters. Daniil Medvedev had run-ins with two separate officials over ball marks during his matches, with Mohamed Lahyani later confessing to making a mistake.

Sinner became the latest victim of an oversight from the officials during his semi-final match on Saturday. After dropping the first set, the Italian forced a decider and raced into a 3-1 lead. He had a break point to extend his advantage over Tsitsipas and the world No. 12 appeared to hit the ball long, though no out call came from the linespeople and umpire Aurelie Tourte chose not to overrule.

It was a pivotal moment as Tsitsipas held on and broke Sinner twice to win the match. Sinner was questioned about the mistake immediately after his loss but showed his true colours as he accepted it was normal to make mistakes.
