Jamie Carragher hits back at 'exposed' claim as Arsenal supporters dig up Liverpool video

Jamie Carragher has snapped back at Arsenal fans who ‘exposed’ him by digging up an old video in response to his comments after last week’s victory over Liverpool. The former Reds defender sparked fury with his criticism of Arsenal’s exuberant celebrations after goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard helped the Gunners to a 3-1 win.

Martin Odegaard was seen taking pictures of Arsenal club photographer Stuart MacFarlane as the north Londoners revelled in their victory, which left Carragher enraged. Speaking in his role as a pundit on Sky Sports, he said: “Get down the tunnel, I’m being serious. You’ve won a game, you’ve got three points, get down the tunnel.”

Arsenal fans on X, formerly Twitter, went on to unearth a video from 2018 in which Carragher hailed Jurgen Klopp for sprinting onto the pitch after Divock Origi’s last-minute winner for Liverpool against Everton.

In the video, Carragher said: “I thought it was brilliant. He probably will get a fine, because you can’t have managers running on the pitch, but I think some things that have been said are just ridiculous. It was a brilliant moment, a moment every supporter would love to see from their manager, hugging a player involved in the goal.

“It will be a moment that was shown for years. Even [Manchester] United had one. I think Pep Guardiola ran on the pitch last season. It was brilliant.”

The re-emergence of the video led to Carragher being accused of hypocrisy by several Arsenal fans in light of his recent comments. He went on to hit back at those mocking him for being ‘obsessed’ with his opinions, doubling down on his claim that Arsenal overcelebrated their recent victory over Liverpool.

Carragher issued a frosty response to one fan who had shared the historic video and claimed to have ‘exposed’ him, saying: “Those examples I use are all last minute winners Terry! Arsenal were 3-1 up against 10 men. The fact you and everyone else is still talking about it five days later shows I’ve exposed how obsessed you all are with my opinions.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones recently reignited the feud between the two clubs by suggesting that Arsenal ‘copied’ the Reds with their post-match celebrations after last weekend’s victory. Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I’ve just got to shut it all down. In a respectful way, the celebrations and stuff like that, it’s all nice.

“But, for many years, we’ve always been a team that our fans are spoken about, and the gaffer himself, you know the way he fist-pumps the fans. That’s kind of our thing. So if they want to be stealing our stuff then it shows we’re on the right path. We’ve got these copying us.”
