Istanbul knife attack: Manhunt after cloaked suspect targets 11, including young girl


At least eleven people, including a young girl, have been rushed to hospital after a man went on a stabbing spree on the streets of Istanbul, Turkey.

Reports from the Turkish city say the perpetrator has been identified but his identity has not been made public.

The victims were taken to nearby Esenyurt Necmi Kadıoğlu State Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

One of the victims, Mehmet Üstel, claimed the knifeman launched his frenzied attack on Monday morning and continued until at least noon, when he was targeted.

He said: “He started stabbing me in the morning, but he stabbed me at noon. The number of people he stabbed is not clear.”

Üstel continued: “While I was walking, a person came across me. He took out the knife and the bread knife. It seemed like he was joking when he first saw it. He put it in my leg and walked away.

“I instantly fell to the ground. He didn’t say anything. It started at 09:30 in the morning, and he caught me at 13.30. He stabbed me. The number of people he stabbed is unknown.”
