Israel stars revenge attack against Iran with explosion as flights diverted over airspace

Israel has launched a revenge attack against Iran – with eight flights diverted over Iranian airspace.

Flight tracking website Flight Radar 24 shows multiple flights diverted over Iranian airspace early Friday.

On Saturday, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel after an apparent Israeli strike killed two Iranian generals.

Israel and Iran have waged a long shadow war, but the strike was Iran’s first direct military attack on Israel.

While Iran’s weekend strike was mostly intercepted and caused little damage, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that “Israel will do whatever is required to defend itself” as world leaders urge de-escalation in the region.

Israeli leaders had vowed a response to Iran’s weekend aerial attack, but an Iranian general said on Thursday that any strikes on Tehran’s atomic sites would result in even more conflict.

A senior Revolutionary Guards general threatened to target Israel’s “nuclear facilities” if it strikes Iran’s own nuclear sites, state media reported.
