Israel has targeted a top Iranian official near Tehran’s Embassy in Damascus, Syria, according to unconfirmed reports from local outlets.

Reuters sources have alleged the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, was killed in the strike.

Reza Zahedi was a senior military officer and the former head of Teheran’s Air Forces and Ground Forces.

In recent years, he came to be considered one of the top commanders of the Quds Force specializing in military intelligence operations.

An explosion rocked the area outside of the Embassy and pictures on social media appeared to show debris and flames in the area following the blast.

Images circulating on social media show a plume of billowing grey smoke emanating from the explosion location into the surrounding area.
