Israel Hamas war LIVE: Troops raid Gaza in urgent preparation for Hamas' ground invasion

Israeli troops and tanks have once again raided northern Gaza, the country’s military has said, engaging with Hamas fighters and targeting anti-tank weapons in order to “prepare the battlefield” before an expected ground invasion.

The third Israeli raid since the war began came after more than two weeks of devastating airstrikes that have left thousands dead, and more than one million displaced from their homes, in the small, densely-populated territory.

Israel is responding after the October 7 terror attack, which saw Hamas gunmen kill more than 700 Israelis.

The US military, meanwhile, launched airstrikes early today on two locations in eastern Syria linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Pentagon said, in retaliation for drone and missile attacks against US bases and personnel in the region that began early last week.

Arab leaders made a joint plea Thursday for a cease-fire to end civilian suffering and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Residents are running out of food, water and medicine, and UN workers have barely any fuel left to support relief missions.
