The UN human rights office has warned that the strike on the refugee camp in Gaza yesterday (November 1) could amount to a ‘war crime’, due to the high number of civilians killed in the attack.
According to officials at Gaza’s Indonesia Hospital, 50 people were killed and another 150 more were injured in the attack on the Jabalia refugee camp yesterday.
The camp was devastated in the attack, and just a crater was left behind following the strike by Israeli forces.
A statement from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said: “Given the high number of civilian casualties and the scale of destruction following Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp, we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes.”
Israel justified the attack, saying it killed a Hamas commander named Ibrahim Biari – one of the leaders it says was responsible for organising the October 7 attacks.
