Russian officers have allegedly killed a group of ISIS militants who had been planning an attack on a Moscow synagogue.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said that a large store of weapons and bomb parts were found during a raid on an Islamic State cell in Kaluga, near Moscow.
The ISIS militants were reportedly getting ready to shoot Jewish people at a synagogue before the FSB gunned them down, Russian state media reported.
The TASS news agency reported the FSB as saying in a statement: “While being arrested, the terrorists put up armed resistance to the Russian FSB officers, and as a result were neutralized by return fire.
“Firearms, ammunition, as well as components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device were found and seized.”

This is not the first time Russian authorities have claimed to thwart planned attacks by suspected Islamist groups.
On March 3, the FSB said it killed six suspected ISIS terrorists in the region of Ingushetia’s town of Karabulak.
The FSB said three of the suspects were on the federal wanted persons list and that they were ISIS members who were “involved in a number of terrorist crimes.”
Conflict between Russia’s Muslim and Jewish communities has heightened during the Israel-Hamas war, which is entering its fifth month of violence.
Gaza’s health ministry said last week that the number of Palestinians killed in the war has now surpassed 30,000.
