Iran-Israel attack: IDF finalise details of revenge plot – one decision is yet to be made

In a move signalling Israel’s firm resolve to retaliate against Iran and its proxies, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have formulated a plan for a counter-strike, according to reports.

However, as of Tuesday, one key decision is yet to be made as the exact timing of the operation remains undecided, according to multiple sources cited by The Jerusalem Post.

The mere existence of a concrete plan underscores the seriousness with which Israel’s leadership regards the need to respond. Yet, indications suggest that Jerusalem is keen to temper any retaliation to prevent escalation into a wider regional conflict as tensions reach boiling point in the Middle East.

During a visit to the Arrow air defence battery of Battalion 136, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi hinted that an attack may not be imminent.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining a semblance of normalcy for citizens during the Passover week, expressing confidence in their readiness.

Speculation abounds regarding the nature of the potential attack. Options range from a significant strike on Iranian nuclear facilities to more measured actions targeting specific drone or ballistic missile installations implicated in Iran’s previous attacks.

Additionally, possibilities include targeted assassinations of individuals or punitive measures against IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) officials and their allies abroad.

A combination of these options, possibly augmented by a substantial cyber attack, is also under consideration, according to defence experts.

The decision regarding the timing and scope of the retaliation remains pending, highlighting the careful deliberation being undertaken by Israeli authorities.

As tensions simmer in the region, Tehran and the rest of the world await developments that could have far-reaching implications for the whole region.
