Inside home frozen in the 1960s on sale for the first time in decades

A time capsule house has gone on the market for the first time in decades.

The four-bedroom semi-detached home in Liverpool is now set to go under the hammer – and the auction house says it has “so much potential”.

But with its loud patterned carpets and linoleum flooring it could be that it’s those with a penchant for the decor or bygone eras who will take a shining to it.

The property located on Church Avenue in Aintree is being listed by SDL Property Auctions and is set to be sold later this month, reports the Liverpool Echo, listed with a guide price of £164,000.

The listing reads: “Located in a cul-de-sac, this four-bed Semi-detached house offers so much potential.

“Full of character and ready for you to put your stamp on, this property offers so much in the way of usage: large family home, flat conversion, HMO (subject to planning).

“Located in the popular area of L9 and a short distance from the Aintree racecourse, you have the benefit of having all local transport links and shops on your doorstep.”

The house is located in a quiet cul-de-sac just around the corner from Aintree Racecourse.

The property boasts a front a rear garden – but it’s only really when you cross the threshold you can see its retro charm.

Brown and burnt orange carpets lead the way to a vintage kitchen complete with linoleum flooring.

Living accommodation on the ground floor also includes one large bedroom, utility room, bathroom and living room.

Upstairs there’s a further bathroom and three bedrooms – and some rooms include a wash basin which was a popular addition in 1960s homes.

Original features also include wood floors, tiles and huge windows.

Time warp properties can be a great chance for homeowners to make their own mark on their home.

This was the case for Ruth and Chris Moore bought a £270,000 semi-detached Edwardian house in Stockport back in 2019.

Ruth, 32, from Stockport, said: “I’m always on Rightmove and one day I saw this three-bed Edwardian house just around the corner which had so much potential.

“We’ve always loved period houses because we find that the rooms are generally bigger and they have a bit more character about them.

“I sent it to Chris as a bit of a joke and said ‘this could be our dream forever home’, but it was super dated and we weren’t thinking about moving so we just left it.”

She added: “We moved in straight away because we couldn’t afford not to – but it was literally a 50s time warp, it looked as though it hadn’t been decorated for decades,” Ruth said.

But the pair have since transformed the property and couldn’t be happier.

Ruth said: “I think a lot of people thought we’d bit off more than we could chew so I’m proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in such a short amount of time.”

The auction for Church Avenue will take place at 10am on Thursday, October 26.
