Prince Harry will have no chance to meet King Charles III when the pair join millions across the country to mark the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
It had been hoped Harry, who will return to the UK for the occasion, could speak with Charles and other members of his family during the visit.
However it is “impossible” for the pair to reunite, Princess Diana’s confidant Paul Burrell claimed, as diaries will not allow it.
And the added tension Harry has placed upon the upper echelons of Buckingham Palace means any last-minute chances of a reunion would also likely be dashed.
Burrell said there’s no “appetite” for a reconciliation while members of the family are “still angry” and “still hurt” about the damning claims he made against the Firm in his memoir and Netflix docu-series with Meghan.
Harry will be in Europe for a few days across the Queen’s anniversary.
Among the stop-offs during his visit will be around 24 hours in the UK ahead of the anniversary as he returns for the WellChild awards on Thursday night, and time in Germany where he will launch the latest installment of the Invictus Games.
Despite being close to his family, Mr Burrell believes there will be no time for King Charles III to meet with his youngest son – even though he will be in the country.
Speaking to The Mirror, Mr Burrell – who was a close ally of Harry’s mother Diana – said: “I don’t think there is going to be any meeting.
“These talks were murmured at Prince Phillip’s funeral. There were murmurs at the Platinum Jubilee. They were murmured at the Queen’s funeral. They’re murmuring now. It’s not going to happen.”
He noted that Charles is also preparing for a state visit to France later this month, which again will take up plenty of the monarch’s time.
He added: “The royal diary will be very full. And when Harry arrives, it will be impossible to get a meeting with any of this family.
“Because you know, what the Royals do? They all gather together in solidarity and they pull the drawbridge up. And Harry won’t be able to see them. He’ll do his own thing and then leave the way he did at his grandmother’s funeral.”
Burrell added that Harry “knows the rules” and won’t make an attempt to see his family without a formal invitation.
Many of the Royal Family’s frontline members will be joining the nation in marking the anniversary of Her Majesty, with the Firm set to unite at Balmoral Castle – where the Queen passed away.
It comes as the Cabinet Office confirmed it was creating a “fitting tribute” to the Queen by installing a permanent memorial and a national legacy plan in her honour.
The Queen Elizabeth memorial committee will work on the proposals, with it expected to be unveiled in 2026 – the year that would have been the former monarch’s 100th.
Lord Robin Janvrin, the Queen’s former private secretary, has been appointed chair of the committee. He said: “It is an honour to be asked to chair the Queen Elizabeth memorial committee.
“It will be a unique challenge to try to capture for future generations Her Late Majesty’s extraordinary contribution to our national life throughout her very long reign.”
