'I’m making my entire Christmas dinner in an air fryer – I get the crispiest roasties'

A great-gran is eschewing traditional ovens and stovetops for her Instant Vortex Plus air fryer.

Beverley Jarvis, 74, claims it’s not only cheaper and easier but also produces the crispiest roast potatoes ever.

The Kent resident, somewhat of an air fryer expert, is set to showcase her culinary prowess by preparing a three-course Christmas dinner for eight using this innovative kitchen gadget.

Beverley’s journey into the world of air frying began in May 2022 when her son gifted her the Instant Vortex Plus.

Impressed by the results of cooking frozen sausages and chips, she promptly found herself experimenting with various recipes.

The allure of the air fryer’s versatility led her to compile the “Everyday Air Fryer Cookbook,” a testament to her growing expertise.

For this Christmas, Beverley plans to serve up a feast featuring pigs in blankets, roast turkey breasts wrapped in bacon, basmati rice for a Christmas salad, and a vegetable medley that includes Brussels sprouts.

However, the star of the show is undoubtedly her air-fried roast potatoes.

She said: “Honestly the roast potatoes I made were the crispiest potatoes ever and I just used a tablespoon of oil and two teaspoons of goose or duck fat, and they were delicious.”

The air fryer enthusiast has even gained the endorsement of renowned culinary expert Prue Leith, who said: “I never thought I’d be an air fryer fan, but Beverley Jarvis has me hooked.”

According to Beverley, the advantages are substantial, with the air fryer being three-and-a-half times cheaper to use than a conventional oven.

Beyond the traditional Christmas fare, Beverley showcases the air fryer’s versatility by preparing a salmon side with sliced clementines, parmesan crisps, carrot and cranberry muffins, and a delightful whole camembert with rosemary and garlic for a quick and easy dip.

Encouraging others to embrace this kitchen revolution, Beverley emphasizes the efficiency of air fryers, highlighting their ability to cook from frozen, reheat food, and handle a diverse range of dishes, from fish and meat to vegetables and poultry.

Her enthusiasm for air frying has resonated so much that she recently held a demonstration for charity at her local town hall, which sold out due to the high demand for a firsthand look at her festive air-fried creations.

She said: “What I say to people is if you’re wondering whether to take the plunge, don’t hesitate – you will really benefit from having one in your kitchen.”
