Idaho murders: Suspect likely to be 'young and obsessed' with girls, says Chris Hansen

Relatively few details have been released about the homicides of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. But father Steve Goncalves revealed authorities told him his daughter’s wounds were “big open gouges”. Chris Hansen from ‘To Catch a Predator’ has since claimed the murder suspect could be someone who was “obsessed” with one of the girls as the attack was “very personal”.

He told Fox News: “It’s a bizarre case and when you have a crime of such viciousness, so violent.

“A stabbing which is typically personal.

“The expert who I have been consulting with believes this is someone who is younger, had this building up inside of them, may have been obsessed with one of the girls who was targeted, her stab wounds were more vicious and different than the other three.

“It doesn’t appear to someone who is a serial killer in their 40s or 50s and just decided this was a target and they were going to act.

“This is very personal whether it’s a stalking case or somebody who has had this anger, obsession well up inside of them and acted.”

Mr Goncalves had asked Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt how many times the students were stabbed.

He told Fox News Digital: “She says, ‘Sir, I don’t think stabs is the right word, it was like tears, like this was a strong weapon, not like a stab.

“She said these were big open gouges. She said it was quick. These weren’t something where you were going to be able to call 911. They were not going to slowly bleed out.”

Police said in a statement: “Investigators believe someone has information that adds context to what occurred on the night of the murders and continue requesting additional pictures, video, and social media content.”
