Iconic British beach branded 'dystopian' and 'giant dog toilet' in scathing online reviews

A UK beach has been ripped apart by reviewers on Tripadvisor who have branded it a “filthy dump” and a “giant dog toilet”. Scarborough Beach has 50 ratings for “terrible” and 59 as “poor” out of 3,539 reviews.

One reviewer said they “couldn’t wait to get out of there” while another described it as a “dystopian” place. They added: “The sand seems permanently wet. Time seems to have stopped in the 1980s. Dystopian place. Couldn’t wait to get out of here.”

Furthermore, another reviewer posted: “Full of screaming children, the most irritating seagulls attacking you and your stuff and, donkey ride! They smell and are pissing on the beach where children are playing!

“Morons leaving stuff close to the sea forgetting about the tides, so the beach is full of abandoned blankets and any sort of trash you can imagine. What a sad and poor place… obviously it’s not the beach, it’s the type of people who go there.”

The donkey rides on the beach were also criticised, with one claiming the donkey ride staff were “threatening”. They said: “Took a photo of a donkey’s head and carried on my way, only to be chased by the owner and shouted at in the street for taking a photo of a donkey’s head.”

This isn’t the first time Scarborough Beach has received critical reviews. In 2018, one person called it a “giant dog toilet”.

Photographs posted online show the extent of the litter and dirt with old bottles and dolls littering parts of the beach.

The problems on the beach have been compounded by storm sewage discharged from a local outflow into Scarborough North Bay.

A pollution risk warning is now in place.
