'I was called Meghan Markle in disguise – now people keep buying me drinks at the pub'

Reacting to the viral memes on Friday, Sir Karl told CNN: “It would have been impossible for anyone to get into the Abbey because of the security. You had to present two photo IDs, a utility bill with an address on.

“No one could have got through that and typical aircraft security scanning as well.”

He added: “People sometimes do come up to me in the street – but it’s been ridiculous this past week. People have been buying me drinks in pubs and pointing to me, saying: ‘You were at the [Coronation].'”

Sir Karl also recalled his two meetings with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, when he performed a concert for the Duke’s military veteran charity.

He said: “They were charming. [Meghan] was charming and friendly, and as I say, I met them twice. And I really hope she’s not upset by all this, because it has nothing to do with me.”

Meghan Markle was absent from King Charles’ Coronation as she stayed behind in Montecito, California to celebrate Prince Archie’s fourth birthday – which also happened to be on the same day.

But Prince Harry still attended the event on behalf of the Sussexes and shared a few joking remarks with Princess Beatrice and Jack Brooksbank on his way into Westminster Abbey.

King Charles also reportedly paid a touching tribute to Prince Archie in a private lunch after the Coronation ceremony, wishing his grandson a happy birthday “wherever he was”.
