'I was called a stalker by my fiancé's family who were creeped out by my personal gifts'

A woman has been labelled a “stalker” by her fiance’s family after giving them overly personal Christmas presents.

The woman, who is expecting a child with her partner, Noah, shared her story on Reddit, explaining that she wanted to show her appreciation during her first Christmas with them.

She wrote: “I’m engaged to Noah and this was the first Christmas I spent with his family. I met them in the summer after we moved to be near his family now that he’s finished with college.

“We’re getting married in February and we’re expecting our first child together in May.”

The woman, who revealed she had “no family” of her own, went on to describe the thoughtful gifts she made for each family member.

She said: “One of his sisters loves to read and so I made a book sleeve for her with little details from all her favourite books. One of his nieces is on the spectrum and has wanted clothes for her stuffy, so I made some clothes for her to put on the stuffy.”

Other presents were a jewellery box for the mum and a big photo frame for the dad’s office. Noah’s brother got signed memorabilia from his favourite sports team, and his other sister got some of her favourite makeup. The nieces and nephews also received gifts.

But, things didn’t go as planned. On Mumsnet, the woman shared: “But when Christmas Day happened I could tell something was off. I spent the whole time worrying that I had bought them stuff they didn’t like anymore or something.”

“They said nothing. But then the next day they asked Noah what the hell I was thinking and I was like some kind of stalker buying them such personal stuff when I’m an almost stranger to them.”

One sister even called her a ‘stalker’ directly, stating it was “no wonder” her family didn’t want her doing “creepy” things.

This reaction made Noah confront his family and insist on an apology for his partner. About 5,000 people replied to her post in support. One sympathiser wrote: “They sound like miserable people. Sorry that happened to you. It’s 100 percent them, not you.”

One person exclaimed: “What the heck is wrong with these people? They’d rather get an impersonal gift they don’t care about??”

Another added: “Seriously, what you did was so very sweet. You didn’t deserve that kind of cruelty.”
