I tried Harrod's new £28 sandwich… but preferred the cheaper Sainsbury's version

The beef itself melted in the mouth and the mustard mayo and portobello mushrooms were the perfect complement to the delicate meat.

The high-quality ingredients might have justified the cost if it were not for the soggy bread and overpowering sweet-onion taste which took away from the meat flavour.

That begs the question, why bother spending all that money for top meat and then packing the sandwich with overbearing ingredients?

And it seemed ridiculous knowing that each bite costs around £5.

Bought opposite Harrods, a Sainsbury’s sandwich had the same combination of steak and onion but with a gravy mayonnaise.

It was equally filling but almost seven times cheaper.

At only £4.25 there was not much to complain about as it was very similar filling-wise, apart from a lower quality steak, which is to be expected.

The soft-white bread was easy to consume, unlike the massive chunks of Harrods sourdough, which we had to ask to be cut into halves.

If you are looking to splash out on a gourmet Wagyu steak experience, you would be better to sit down to eat the steak in its pure form.

If you are looking to eat a steak sandwich, the Sainsbury’s version would not only save you £23.75 but would still leave you feeling full and satisfied.
