'I bought my first home and immediately regretted it as soon as I stepped inside'

A first-time home buyer has revealed she immediately regretted her purchase after seeing the house for the first time post sale.

Sharing her experience on TikTok, Victoria said she was “in shock” when she found out the purchase had gone through and was initially excited at the prospect of getting the keys.

But after visiting the home for the first time, she said she wanted to “change her mind” and give the keys back, calling the home “disgusting”.

Sharing videos of the property on TikTok, she said she discovered “damp and mould” upon entering her new abode, as well as the “smell of cat wee in the carpets”.

But viewers were quick to reassure her that the house had a lot of “potential”.

‘Wow, I’ve made a big mistake’

Victoria said: “I’ve just bought a house. It was a bit of a shock when I first got it because I was like, woah I’ve made a huge mistake. You know when people buy a house normally you see them mega excited and get champagne but it definitely wasn’t that vibe.

“I went in and was like ‘wow I’ve made a big mistake, can I say I’ve actually changed my mind’. I was like ‘mum, do you want it instead because I don’t like it anymore’.

“It was just so digusting. There was the smell of cat wee in the carpets. Me and my parents went in and had a look around and then we left. The next day we went and ripped up all the carpets and clean it so then I was like ‘I feel a bit better now, I can see the potential again’.

“I’ve never seen any videos of people admitting they don’t like it. I was thinking ‘great, I’ve just been scammed’. But actually I think it’s more common than you think.”

Since then, Victoria’s parents have ripped up the carpets and stripped the wallpaper ready to be re-decorated.

Victoria was also shocked to discover part of the ceiling exposed in a cupboard that she claims was “hidden” by the original owners who “put a wardrobe in front of the door”, meaning it was missed on the survey.

She also shared a video of her “cleansing” the house with sage in an attempt to “get rid of the bad vibes”.

One viewer wrote: “The potential is insane”. While another added: “That tiled floor could be amazing!”

A third wrote: “Buyers’ remorse is a real thing – I’m sure it’s lovely and will feel like home in no time!”

Another said: “I think this is really common. it’s the way it looks when you get the keys after the previous owners have rushed moving out vs when it was being shown.”

Others questioned why she was so shocked if she had seen the home before, but she said it looked “different without the furniture”.
