Humza Yousaf avoided condemning atrocities on Israeli citizens as most of the rest of the world united to condemn the terrorist attacks by Hamas yesterday morning.
The SNP Scottish First Minister, who has been a regular critic of Israel, shocked political opponents with a weak response to the appalling events unfurling in Israel.
As Palestinian terrorists went from door to door murdering Israeli Jews and dragging others out of their cars before parading dead bodies through the streets of Gaza, Mr Yousaf put out a neutral post on X, formerly Twitter, declining to condemn anybody.
He said: “My wife Nadia and I spent this morning on the phone to her family in Gaza.
“Many others in Scotland will be deeply worried about their families in Israel and Palestine. My thoughts and prayers are very much with those worried about loved ones caught up in this awful situation.”
As mobs of extremists danced in parts of the UK celebrating the bloodbath, a senior Member of the Scottish Parliament said that “Scotland deserves better” than Yousaf and his “embarrassing” post.
Tory MSP Stephen Kerr said: “Humza Yousaf has failed to call out Hamas for what they are: terrorists. He’s an embarrassment to our great nation. Scotland deserves better!”
Meanwhile, Nick Timothy, a former adviser to Theresa May, was also shocked by Mr Yousaf’s response.
He likened Yousaf to Jeremy Corbyn whose leadership of the Labour Party was marred by the way the party was engulfed in anti-semitism and Jews were driven out.
Mr Timothy said: “Jeremy Corbyn isn’t the only British political leader who seems unable to condemn terrorism – terrorism of the most barbaric kind imaginable.”
