Huge fire in Surrey sees smoke billowing over M25 as blaze 'can be seen for 10 miles'


Fire and Rescue teams are at the sight of a large fire in West Byfleet, Surrey which has been spotted over the M25. Surrey Fire and Rescue confirmed that nine fire engines and 3 aerial ladder platforms were at the sight of the blaze in a commercial unit close to J10 and J11 which began on Thursday night. The force is advising people in the area to “keep windows and doors closed” and avoid the area.  

Pictures and videos shared on social media show a huge plume of smoke rising over the unit for more than ten miles.

Sharing an update on Friday morning, Surrey Fire and Rescue said: “We remain in attendance at the incident, with 9 fire engines and 3 aerial ladder platforms. Our control room are receiving a high volume of calls reporting the fire this morning.

“Please note that we are aware of the smoke, and expect to be at the scene throughout the day.

“We continue to advise that local residents keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area.

“Please plan your journey in advance this morning to avoid disruption.”
