How the Queen gave Prince William an ultimatum about Princess Kate

Prince William was given an ultimatum by his grandmother Queen Elizabeth about his beloved Kate Middleton, after she grew frustrated with the pair’s relationship. Wills had confided in his grandmother that he wasn’t sure if he loved Kate enough, according to former Sunday Express royal correspondent Camilla Tominey.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met at the University of St Andrews about two decades ago, and while they stand strong and united today, there were a couple of bumps along the way. Firstly, they endured a split when students at the university, and while that one was reported, a second was to follow.

They got back together, but in 2007, they split again – this time capturing the imagination of the country. Prince William allegedly told Queen Elizabeth that he was not sure about his feelings for Kate, and that he started to feel “claustrophobic”.

Nevertheless, the split lasted just two months, and the couple were an item again in July 2007. However, the Queen wasn’t convinced, and decided to summon Will for a serious chat about what was going on.

The beloved Elizabeth wanted to ensure harmony in the family, and handed her grandson an ultimatum to try and fix his life. Will had to decide quickly – marry the girl, or dump her.

Ms Tominey explained: “Now that they were back together, the Queen wanted William to do the right thing. She would rather they broke up for good now than get married only to have it end in divorce in five years’ time.”

The Queen told William that if he really did love Ms Middleton, then five years is more than enough time to know that by now. The Queen’s beloved husband, Prince Philip, also reportedly told William he could not keep stringing along Kate for ever.

It only took a year from that point, and Prince William proposed to Kate in Kenya in 2010.
