'How can you tell that?': Princess Kate reveals whether she's stricter than Prince William

Kate, Princess of Wales, has revealed whether she’s the “strict” parent compared to Prince William.

During a Buckingham Palace garden party in May, Princess Kate, 41, met Aldith Grandison, 93, and her daughter, Jay Cee La Bouche and they talked about jokes.

The royal admitted she’s “terrible” at jokes whilst, Prince William, also 41, is in contrast, “very good”.

She said in a video shared by Sky News: “I’m terrible. I’m terrible at jokes.”

But the three women also talked about strict parenting, with the 93-year-old telling the Princess of Wales: “You’re the strict one” to which she replied: “I’m definitely not strict! How can you tell that? Surely not!”

Both the Prince and Princess of Wales have been trying to give their children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, childhoods that are as normal as possible while also introducing them to their royal roles.

They even drive them to school regularly and try make sure at least one of them is home for their return.

The royal children have also been spotted on trips to the supermarket or snacking from the boot of the car while Prince William plays polo.

And the Prince of Wales is known for having fun will all three of his children, whether that is playing sports or introducing them to his passion for flying helicopters.

Their special bond was recently displayed in a series of sweet portraits released to mark Father’s Day.

The family is also known for doing other “normal” things like getting messy, whether that is cooking pizza, baking – Princess Kate loves to make birthday cakes for her three children – or playing outside.

She told the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020 she’s the happiest when she’s the happiest when she’s with “my family outside in the countryside and we’re all filthy dirty”.

A palace insider told PEOPLE: “Those children look pretty happy with life.

“A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”

Princess Kate grew up in the village of Bucklebury as the eldest of three children to her parents, Carole and Michael.

Her childhood in the country helped inspire her love of the outdoors, and she has recalled how she loved to go “boulder hopping” in the Lake District.

A source close to the royal household said: “Coming from a different background, she appreciates the importance of having family time.

“She wasn’t brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day.”

Royal parents often relied on nannies while they carried out their public duties but Prince William and Princess Kate were given permission by Queen Elizabeth and then-Prince Charles to focus on their young family above royal duties.

A friend said: “Royal families over the generations haven’t had the chance to get those foundations right, but they have.”
