October’s “mini-heatwave” will blast the UK this weekend with temperatures rivalling those in Ibiza, the Met Office has said.
Brits, especially those in southern England, will see highs just a few degrees under the country’s record maximum established more than a decade ago.
The weather agency has forecast temperatures up to 26C, above several European nations, including parts of Spain and France.
The unusual October heat marks the start of a warmer spell, weather maps suggest, with temperatures exceeding 20C for several days despite a recent decline.
But the Met Office has warned people not to expect wall-to-wall sunshine, as forecasters anticipate the heat to be dampened by incoming rainy spells.
