Hospital forced to apologise for patient's 'disgusting' beige meal with no veg

A Glasgow hospital has been forced to say sorry after a picture of a “disgusting” meal served to a patient went viral.

A daughter, named Lara, shared a snap of the unappetising meal on X – previously called Twitter. She wrote: “This is the lunch served up to my father in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow today. An absolute disgrace. Disgusting.”

The photo shows what looks to be turkey with four roast potatoes and gravy. There isn’t a single vegetable to be seen on the plate, reports Glasgow Live.

The post sent shockwaves across the internet with over six million views and 30,000 likes as people were appalled at the “awful2 and “disgraceful” meal given by the hospital last week.

One person wrote in reply: “That’s disgusting. Not one green vegetable on the plate either. A friend’s mother was in the QE (Queen Elizabeth) over Christmas. The food was so bad that they ended up cooking all of her meals from scratch and then taking them up to the hospital. It’s shocking.”

Another person criticised the quality of hospital food more generally, saying: “Exactly the state of the food my mother got last year at that hospital. You’d think hospitals would be the first place to have nutritious food seeing as people are recovering.”

Another added: “That’s shocking. Outsourcing was the biggest mistake ever.”

The hospital told The Mirror: “NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is committed to serving fresh, healthy and appetising food to all our patients, and all meals served at our hospitals are prepared in-house to meet strict nutritional standards.

“However, on this occasion, the food we have served has fallen below the standards we set ourselves, and which patients should be able to expect, and we apologise to the patient involved and their family.”

“We would encourage anyone who would like to discuss their meals to get in touch with our catering team who can quickly resolve any issues.”
