Horror on Stena Line ferry as passenger falls overboard sparking massive rescue operation

An intense rescue mission was launched after a passenger “fell overboard” from a Stena Line Ferry. Rescue crews were scrambled after the person fell into the water from the Stena Superfast 8 on Loch Ryan.

After the incident, the ship launched a rescue boat and recovered the individual from the water following the terrifying fall.

A coastguard helicopter was subsequently deployed to the scene to take the injured person to the hospital.

Images from the rescue show the person being winched into the rescue helicopter.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard was requested to assist the Stena Superfast 8 ferry this evening after a person fell overboard in Loch Ryan.

“The person was recovered from the water by the ferry’s fast rescue craft and taken to Ayr Hospital by the Coastguard helicopter. We have no further information at this time.”

The RNLI added: “Today at 17:55 Girvan Lifeboat was paged for immediate launch to the Loch Ryan area, as our volunteer crew battled a sprightly Force 7 Westerly wind.

“Approaching Ballantrae we stood down, also in attendance were Stranraer RNLI, Coastguard rescue helicopter R199, and various coastguard rescue teams from along the southwest coast.

“Girvan lifeboat returned to base back on station 19:00. No further details will be made available for this callout.”
