A motorist, who had nodded off while driving home following a strenuous 12-hour shift, survived a car crash, marking what has been described as a “Christmas miracle.”

Police shared alarming images of the severely damaged vehicle near Ashton-under-Lyne, which veered off the M60 motorway at approximately 6am on December 25. Despite the extent of the wreckage, the driver emerged from the incident with no serious injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital.

The North West Motorway Police posted on social media, detailing the incident, as a spokesperson said: “This is the aftermath of a road traffic collision at 6am this morning on the M60 near Junction 23.

The driver just finished a 12-hour shift and fell asleep at the wheel, thankfully not serious injuries but likely to remain in the hospital today. Please take a break if feeling tired.”

A startled observer referred to the survivor’s outcome as a “Christmas miracle,” emphasizing the fortunate nature of the incident.

Others expressed concerns about the challenges faced by individuals working extended hours, with one person highlighting the need for employers to consider the well-being of their staff during post-shift commutes.

Acknowledging the severity of the wreckage, individuals expressed relief that the situation did not escalate to more serious consequences.

There were also calls for measures to discourage such lengthy shifts, with concerns raised about the potential risks associated with driving in a fatigued state.

The overall sentiment was one of gratitude towards emergency responders and a plea for everyone to prioritize safety while on the road.
