Horror as vicious dog attack on quiet residential street leaves five hospitalised


Five people have been taken to hospital after a late night dog attack saw numerous injuries.

The incident took place on a road in Bournemouth, Dorset, at around 11.45pm on Friday, December 29. The dog, said to be a Belgian Malinois aka a Belgian Shepherd, attacked five people and two dogs.

Police rushed to the scene on Charminster Road where the dog was seized and a 46-year-old man arrested. All five people were taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

In a statement, Dorset Police said: “Officers investigating an incident where several people reportedly were bitten by a dog in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“It is reported that at around 11.45pm on Thursday 28 December 2023, a man was bitten by a dog in Charminster Road, near to the junction with Capstone Road. The dog was reportedly off its lead and went on to bite another four people and two dogs.

“The five victims were treated at hospital for minor injuries. A 46-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog that is dangerously out of control causing injury.

“The suspect is currently assisting officers with their enquiries. The dog – a black Belgian Malinois – was seized by police.”

PC Oliver Smith said: “We have been carrying out enquiries into this incident and as we have now obtained full details from the victims, I am now in a position to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.”

One resident, who said their friend was bit, told the Daily Echo: “The dog was attacking him in the doorway of a store, and after that, he bit maybe four other people.”
