Horrifying moment gunman bursts into restaurant on Christmas Eve as man killed

A man has died and another has been seriously injured following a shooting at a restaurant in Dublin last night.

Families in Browne’s Steakhouse were having a meal on Christmas Eve when a gangland gun attack reportedly broke out, sending them running for cover.

A father and son in the restaurant were believed to be the targets of the attack. They allegedly had several shots fired at them by the gunmen.

It is understood that the Gardai are investigating whether the dead man was tackled in the aftermath.

Two injured men were taken to Connolly Hospital for treatment, where one was pronounced dead from reported stab wounds.

The dead man, in his 20s, is believed to be one of the gunmen. Gardai have not yet confirmed the nature of the fatal injuries but it has been reported that he was stabbed.

The other, a man in his 40s, was treated for gunshot wounds and was in serious condition last night.

Both are alleged to be known to the Gardai for their involvement in serious and organised crime.

Detectives are treating the shooting as gang-related and believe it is linked to an ongoing drugs and gun-related feud.

The scene has been preserved for a examination and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

The Gardai are also reportedly concerned there could be repercussions as tensions are running high in the area and threats of retaliatory attacks have been issued on social media.
